Finishing our Updates

It’s hard to decide what to write about.  Everything related to this blog has been about the house and the work that we’ve been doing to get it finished.  Our pace has slowed down since we blitzkrieg the initial repair work to get us to the point that we could move in.  Now, if we have a choice of unpacking a room or sitting on the couch and watching a movie, the movie often wins.  My most recent project was replacing light switches and wall outlets to match the rest of the house.  I still need to finish the base boards and touch up the paint on cupboards…but the couch is so comfy.
Christmas this year was with Kaela’s family in Omaha, NE.  We played games, went bowling with Kelson and Lauren, watched Shaili spoil Gaia Christmas morning, ate a lot of really good food, got to do a session at the Winter Quarters temple, and saw a performance of the Christmas Carol.  We unfortunately had to fly home Christmas day because Kaela was scheduled to work the next day, but on the way back both Kaela and I got sick so we took the next day off and stayed in bed.
For New Year’s we went up to Cache Valley and hung out with my family.  Mindy, my sister, had flown in from Indy to celebrate the holidays.  But, because Kaela and I were in Omaha, they waited to open gifts till New Year’s Day.  Two days of opening presents, what a Christmas miracle!  Then we went to Crystal Hot Sprints and soaked the day away in the pool.
Having Mindy around was nice.  We miss having her close by.
Otherwise we’ve been trying to fit in what remodeling we can on the house, getting back to normal life with working, and enjoying having Erika stay with us since she moved here from Omaha. She’s looking for a job and housing, so hopefully she’ll end up still being close by.
To finish getting the world up to date, Darrell got to go 4-wheeling in the dunes yesterday and I (yes, I took over typing) had a girls day with Shana, Alyssa, and Erika. Fondue and Gilmore Girls, in case you were wondering. Then we had a couple from our previous ward over to play games, but we really just sat and talked for a few hours. It was nice getting to see them since we haven’t really found good friends our age in our new ward yet. Seeing as we are both speaking in church next week though, that may change. No one can resist our wit, spiritual insights, and charm. Or so we hope.
We also went to temple square to see the lights with Erika and Darrell’s old roommate Craig. We’ve had Darrell’s grandparents and aunt drop by to see the house, and visited both sets of my grandparents to say hi for the holidays.
I’m sure other cool things have happened, but you’ll just have to ask us about them since my brain is shutting down for the night. I’d ask us to tell the story of Erika and I trying to give our cat Fuzz Bum a bath yesterday for starters. We both have scratches as visual aids, but the cat is once again soft and fluffy instead of all nasty and dirty. She has a thing for rolling around in dirt.
Happy New Year to everyone! Hope you’ve got some good adventures planned for the upcoming year and are all happy, safe, and well.
